WHO WE ARE

We are a small group of community volunteers committed to making a difference in the lives of those who have served our country – offering them a “hand up" rather than a "handout".

Project Rise Above is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2016 by three Warren County, Ohio residents who saw the need to increase support for veteran participants of the Warren County Veterans Court. Veterans Courts are a specialized docket designed to help veterans found guilty of misdemeanor and felony crimes get their lives back on track. The voluntary program requires veterans to commit to a minimum of 18 months of rehabilitation to address the underlying causes of the behavior that resulted in entering the criminal justice system. Veterans must comply with the program’s participation requirements and accept mentorship from a trained veteran mentor.

Project Rise Above is comprised of a group of volunteers, many of whom are Veterans themselves. Volunteer board members oversee and execute its mission of “expanding the path of support – one boot at a time”.

99% OF DONATIONS MADE TO PROJECT RISE ABOVE ARE USED TO COVER THE COST OF BASIC LIVING NECESSITIES FOR PARTICIPANTS OF THE VETERANS INTERVENTION COURT PROGRAM

Over the years, Project Rise Above has covered the cost of such things as industrial work boots, basic clothing, clothing for job interviews, rent deposits, food, medication, employment certification classes, car repairs, the costs of college and certification courses and holiday gift cards for the children of program participants. By fulfilling our mission, Project Rise Above continues to help program participants remain focused on their rehabilitation efforts. Although Project Rise Above’s support is basic and limited according to our guidelines, it remains significant when other resources are not available or unable to respond quickly.

"Project Rise Above eliminates the red tape aspect of a veteran receiving assistance in a quick and timely fashion because the need is great and immediate."
